#36 Softball and Baseball Nets

Specifications of Our #36 Baseball and Softball Netting

The Ball Fabrics #36 softball and baseball nets are 1 ¾” square mesh and made of UV-treated black nylon. Our bestseller, the #36 twine size is the most popular choice for schools and municipalities. This direct-impact netting is perfect for high school, little league, and city park backstops and batting cages, among many other useful applications.

Our nylon netting is solution dyed, which means the fibers are treated with UV and mildew inhibitors before the net is constructed. This process ensures consistent weathering and color retention throughout the entire net. This consistent treatment of dye and inhibitors throughout the net means that, unlike dip coated nets, the interior of our knots will not gray or rot. Demand the best from your nylon netting by using solution-dyed nets from Ball Fabrics.

We always go beyond the expected to ensure incredible quality in all of our products. So, in addition to using solution-dyed yarn, our nets are also coated with a resin bonding designed to add an extra layer of protection. That provides even greater strength and durability over a longer time.

Our baseball and softball netting is designed to stop baseballs in their tracks, protecting the surrounding area and spectators from potential damage or injury. Plus, our product is suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage.

Why Our Softball and Baseball Nets Stand Out

  • Construction – Our nets are constructed with a tighter twisted yarn because we know that abrasion is a net’s greatest enemy. Our goal is to establish the overall break strength plus resiliency that the market demands. With a looser twine, break strength may increase a bit, but abrasion resistance decreases significantly. Our many decades of experience have proven that a tighter twisted yarn provides a longer lasting net.
  • Raw material – Our nylon is selected from the best producers of raw nylon material. That distinguishes us from many net producers. For each shipment of raw material received, the tenacity of the filament is tested to ensure that it meets rigorous standards. Our raw nylon is tested to weed out inferior batches before they get to the end user.
  • Mesh consistency – Our nets are produced on Italian netting looms for knotted nets and German knotless looms for knotless nets. A well calibrated and maintained machine creates the most consistently dependable mesh. Consistent mesh builds integrity into the end product.
  • Processes – Manufacturing is a step-by-step process. At every step, quality can be built in or left out, and we make the choice to build in quality at every opportunity. Pre-shrinking is a good example. All of our nylon nets are pre-shrunk so that, when they are fabricated, the long-term shrinkage is greatly reduced. Nylon tends to shrink approximately 10–12%, over time, due to sun exposure and heat. Because our nets are pre-shrunk during the manufacturing process, our nylon nets will shrink only 4–6% after the customer receives it. This is only one example of the extra care we take at every step of the manufacturing process that impacts the endurance, strength, and value of our netting products.
  • Quality control – Throughout the manufacturing process of our netting, we measure the break strength of the filament when it arrives, the twine when it is produced, the net when it is produced, and the net when it is finished. We also measure the mesh size after every process. Along with this, the net passes through multiple manufacturing processes, and after each the net is inspected. The nets go through five different tests throughout the manufacturing process, with a sixth test once they are fabricated and before being sent to the customer.

FAQs About Custom Nylon Baseball Netting and More

What materials are most common for batting cage nets?

Batting cages require material strength, abrasion resistance, and impact absorption, so most batting cage nets are constructed using nylon or polyethylene. We choose to use nylon netting exclusively for multiple reasons:
  • Better impact absorption, because nylon stretches better than polyethylene
  • Superior break strength
  • Stronger more consistent knots, since nylon has less slippage than polyethylene

Our custom #36 netting is comprised of 100% UV-treated, solution-dyed nylon material. This product can be utilized in either an indoor or outdoor setting and is the perfect solution for any product designed to protect the surrounding area from a baseball or softball.

How does the netting perform on impact?

Nylon netting absorbs the force of the impact by stretching the nylon material to dissipate the energy of the hit. As a result, nylon excels at absorbing impact due to its superior elongation. It stretches yet still maintains its structure and strength. Because of this unique quality, and all the other safety factors built into our netting, you can be assured that our baseball and softball netting will properly protect players and spectators from any potential collision.

How do I properly install netting?

To properly install a custom baseball net, simply attach the top of the net using spring clips or net clips. Then lace one side to the pole or a vertical cable attached to the pole. At the bottom, lace the net to a horizontal cable or other attachment point. Pull the net so that slack is taken out and the net is taut, but don’t pull the net too tight. The net is meant to absorb impact without billowing in the wind. Remember that the net will stretch some after installation. Once the bottom is laced, finish by lacing the final side to the pole or vertical cable attached to the pole. From there, repeat these steps until all the net panels are installed. Please note that if you are placing your #36 netting above an existing fence, ensure that the bottom of the net is attached to the top rail of the fence, preferably with lacing twine.
